Just can’t sleep or remain asleep for a long period of time? Struggle to close your eyes for more than a few minutes or stop your mind bombing from one thought to another?
These are all characteristics of suffering from Insomnia.
An important point to know is that Insomnia is a result of sleep disorders and not actually a sleep disorder itself, it’s a symptom.
Medication, Caffeine, Stress and Anxiety are all possible causes. Pain, aches or an issue at work that’s causing your brain to whizz can just as easily be the cause of your insomnia.
What is important though, is the root cause of why you can’t sleep must be dealt with.
It’s worth stressing that this is not a small problem only you are suffering from, this is a massive issue!
The National Institutes of Health report that 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from intermittent sleep problems and chronic sleep disorders.
Sleep loss is something that should not be looked upon lightly as it can be linked to serious health issues such as diabetes and heart disease.
Being deprived of sleep can also lead to obesity, break downs in relationships, mood swings, depression and anxiety. Basically just making each day a struggle to get through and making it difficult to concentrate on your daily life and work.
So what could be causing your insomnia?
Well, one big factor which we are going to talk about today, could be your constant exposure to EMF(electro-magnetic field) pollution. Mobile phones, mobile phone masts, WiFi, wireless devices and computers all constantly radiate EMFs.
Your wireless device emits a truly hazardous kind of EMF close to microwave radiation. Oscillating at a high frequency and stopping your brain from resting, therefore you from sleeping.
Not only that but we are putting ourselves at risk of exposure to radiation which could possibly lead to dangerous health issues.
Jeromy Johnson silicon-valley engineer turned technology health advocate tackles the problems of EMF pollution head on in this fantastically informative video below.
He addresses our attachment to technology and the health hazards such an addiction holds, especially the negative impacts of Electromagnetic Field (EMF) exposure.
In this next video you can listen to a very powerful interview with Dr. Devra Davis who is President of the Environmental Health Trust, a non-profit organization focusing on drawing attention to man-made health threats.
She is also one of the most well-respected and credentialed researchers on the dangers of cellphones.
Here’s just one quote from the video..
radiofrequency energy is another word for microwave radiation. If people understood that they were holding a two-way microwave-radiating device next to their brain or next to their reproductive organs, they might think differently about it
This is a massive subject in its own right so if you would like to read more into this please visit Mercola.
Firstly, just switch off your WiFi every night (or even better, only switch it on when you need it!). In fact better still, try to hard wire your computers to the internet router at home or the office, therefore doing away with the need for WiFi signals.
And why not even try to convince your kid’s school to try to do this too. Let’s face it, it’s the current younger generation who are going to grow up with WiFi signals going through their bodies since birth, something that scares me silly!
Try using your mobile phone on speaker phone away from your body and without doubt switch it off at night. In fact make sure you also unplug electronics and appliances that are plugged into power sockets on the other side of the wall parallel to your bed.
The issue of course, even if you are switching off your own WiFi and cellphone every night, your neighbours are probably not (unless you can convince them too!) so it becomes hard to escape!
So you may have to look at other ways to help with your insomnia.
Meditation – If you are more relaxed, the greater the likelihood you’ll get a good night’s sleep. Relaxation techniques such as meditation can take stress from the mind and body leading to a deeper more restful sleep.
Aromatherapy – Using oils such as Lavender oil and other relaxing essential oils has long been known to help relax and in turn induce a good nights sleep.
Exercise – Many studies have shown that exercising for even just a short amount of time a day, can lead to better sleep. Plus you gain the added benefit of increasing your chances of better health.
Dark room – This may sound obvious if you can’t sleep but get your room as dark as possible by using a black out blind or if this is not possible try a sleep mask. The key to this though is to also make sure you get plenty of good bright daylight in the daytime.
Adult colouring – is used by many as a way of unwinding and becoming calmer. If that takes your fancy why not grab our….
Other traditional remedies and ideas for insomnia that are worth trying are…
Herbal remedies such as chamomile, hops, lavender, and passion-flower and also very popular with people who can’t sleep.
Traditional Chinese medicine such as Acupuncture, Dietary and lifestyle analysis, Herbs and other techniques have also been used to try to tackle problems that may be the deeper issues leading to Insomnia.
Stop and think for a minute how your day would be if there wasn’t wifi at every single cafe, library or pub you visit.
We know this thought may horrify some of you! BUT would you end up talking more to the people you are with?
Would you think ‘Actually I might as well keep my phone in my bag as I can’t view emails or the internet anyway, I’ll just grab it when it rings’. Wouldn’t that be nice? To be truly sociable again, no distractions! Can you feel yourself relaxing already?
And the double bonus?… your body would not be bombarded by microwaves.
A dream we know but if enough of us spread the word with how dangerous EMF pollution really is, who knows!
In fact some cafes are already banning wifi, to encourage a more social environment and for customers to have real interactions, so maybe, just maybe there is hope!
So, just take the time to tune out, find time to truly relax and switch off and have fun, we really believe if you can’t sleep this will go a long way to helping.
